Where is Fluorite Found?

Fluorite can be found across the globe in a range of climates, from North America, South America to Europe, Asia and Africa. The world’s largest producers of fluorite are China and Mexico.

Fluorite mining produces an abundant amount of the mineral, making it available at a relatively low-price point. There are some versions of fluorite that are rare and valuable, like Blue John fluorite which only comes from the Rogerley Mine in Durham, England. Fluorite locality can impact the appearance of the stone. Illinois fluorite is known for the purple and blue specimens it produces.

Fluorite is available in a multitude of colors across the spectrum, which vary in hues and shades. In its original form, fluorite is colorless.
