Rhodochrosite’s primary placement is the Heart Chakra Heart Chakra as primary, with secondary Solar Plexus resonance: emotional recovery, inner child work, compassionate self-love, opening the heart after loss or trauma. Some of my clients tend to go toward the inner child, some toward self-worth, and some toward trust. All three are really describing the same energetic territory from different angles of approach to be honest though, its work that involves issues with the self, recovery, and compassion.
What that specific thing is, in practice: rhodochrosite finds what the heart has closed over. Not the grief that is actively present: for that, malachite or obsidian does faster and more direct work. The layer underneath it. The places where the emotional response was learned to be managed rather than felt. The territory that has been so consistently handled with competence that the person has forgotten what it felt like before the management began. Rhodochrosite does not excavate that territory aggressively. It arrives gently, like something returning from a long distance, and allows recognition rather than confrontation.
Rhodochrosite Is a Great Buy for Some People
I picked up my first polished piece of rhodochrosite at a Boulder shop in the spring of 2018: three months after beginning the malachite work, about two weeks after realizing the malachite had done most of what it was going to do and something different was now needed. It was a polished oval cabochon from the Capillitas deposit in Argentina, the characteristic concentric-banded material with rings of deep rose and cream cycling outward from a central point. About the size of a large coin. The Boulder shop had several; I stood with one in each palm for a few minutes comparing them, which is not my usual method. I put them both down and picked up the one that had stayed warm in my hand slightly longer than the other. Paid $22. That reasoning would not survive peer review. The result has been the most consistently used heart stone in twelve years of practice.
What I understood about rhodochrosite within the first month of working with it: it is not a comfort stone. People who come to it expecting the warm, receiving quality of rose quartz or the broad self-love opening of green aventurine are sometimes surprised to find that rhodochrosite is more specifically located than either of those. It finds specific material. The emotional information that had been stored and set aside rather than processed: not repressed, not avoided, but carefully managed and filed somewhere where it would not interfere with functioning. Rhodochrosite retrieves that filing with a quality that I can only describe as affectionate recognition. The material surfaces and is received with warmth rather than confronted with pressure. For the particular client population that needs that: and it is a specific population, which the Healing sections below describe: it is the most precisely matched stone I know.
